About the Acquisition

Dagmar Westberg was born in Hamburg but chose Frankfurt as her adopted home town. On her ninety-fourth birthday, she made a most generous gift to the Städel – the altar by the ‘Master of the von Groote Adoration’, which is regarded as one of the most important Netherlandish works of its time. Since as early as the year 2000, the Dagmar Westberg Foundation has, among other things, supported the Städel’s Collection of Prints and Drawings by financing new purchases. In addition to its commitment to the fine arts, the foundation also supports social projects in Frankfurt.
