Biography

Luthmer received her artistic training from Wilhelm Trübner in his private studio at the Städel. In 1901 she went to Paris, where she studied at the Académie Julian and with the painter Eugène Carrière. After returning to Frankfurt she worked as a freelance artist specializing in landscape painting. Her works were regularly on view in exhibitions. In the Women Artists’ Association she was actively involved in efforts to improve training conditions for women artists. Luthmer moreover contributed to various Frankfurt newspapers and magazines as a writer and illustrator.
