Born in Siegen in 1931; died in Rostock in 2007. 1947 to 1950 trained as a decorative painter. 1953 to 1956 studied graphics, painting, and typography at the Staatliche Kunstakademie in Stuttgart under Karl Rössing. 1957 to 1961 studied typography at the Kunstakademie Düsseldorf under Walter Breker.
