About the Acquisition

In his will, Ernst Asch – a doctor of medicine who lived on Mozartplatz in Frankfurt – determined the order of inheritance as follows: first his brother, the London-based businessman Wilhelm Bertram Asch, and secondly the city of Frankfurt, on condition that it establish a Dr. med. Ernst Asch Foundation. According to the testator’s imprecise wording, the endowments were to be used “for social, intellectual and artistic purposes”. As his brother declined the inheritance, the foundation was set up in 1921; since 1949 it has been part of the Heussenstamm Foundation.
