About the Work

The classical theme of depicting ideal female nudes is suited to Boucher, a painter of gallant and frivolous scenes. Due to the technique of washed ink drawings, however, the emphasis is less on the sensuality of the female nudes than on the painterly organisation of the composition as a whole.
