About the Work

Filled with tension-charged rhythm, a rich web of lines forms the characteristic silhouette of Stralsund’s old town. The black sails of the boats moored in the harbor flutter in the wind and the sky spans the city’s gables in spherical arcs. Light is the foremost concern of many of Heckel’s woodcut land- and townscapes.
