About the Work

Roxy Paine delegates the execution of his artworks to a machine. 'Scumak' is an 'Auto Sculpture Maker' and is programmed to pour liquid plastic coloured with pigment across an appliance and on to a base at different intervals. Sculptures are produced on a production line, but no two are the same. In spite of the mechanical production and without the intervention of the artist, the objects created before the viewer's eyes are one of a kind.
