About the Work

Markus Lüpertz's Donald Duck has little to do with Pop Art. His cartoon figure is deformed and burst. Considerably influenced by the CoBrA Group, by gestural, Informel painting, Lüpertz attacks his subjects aggressively. What is left of Donald Duck contradicts the two-dimensionality of Pop Art, in spite of the closeness of the subject; it is intentionally set up in competition with the latter.
