About the Work

The young photographer Dora Maar was a member of the Parisian art scene of the 1930s and the Surrealist movement in particular. Her works play with the onlooker, rouse his curiosity, make promises. The elegant nape of the neck and the woman’s blonde wavy hair form a stark contrast to the dark background. Strong light reflections and eerie shadows stimulate the onlooker’s fantasy and make him wonder about the story behind the image. What is the woman looking at? What does she look like?
