The print’s title points to the figure depicted at the lower right: St Jerome, immersed in prayer and seemingly oblivious to the vast landscape. Noticeable only on closer inspection, the figure at the lower left appears almost like a counter-image to the saint. The tiny wanderer is just setting out to explore the magnificent scenery and invites us to accompany him with our eyes.
