About the Work

The visualisation of a mathematical formula – the title describes the reduced composition and the manner in which the painting was executed. The degree values designate the angle formed by the shallow diagonals and the work’s horizon. The result is a pattern of rhomboid parallelograms cut off by the picture’s edges, while at the same time virtually spreading out endlessly into the space. François Morellet, a chief exponent of European Concrete Art, created a painterly dynamic which transcends the aesthetic boundary between picture and space.
