Jan van Huysum

Jan van Huysum was born in Amsterdam in 1682. He was the son and pupil of Justus I van Huysum, a decorative painter who specialised in floral still lifes. Independent in Amsterdam by 1704, he painted only fruit and floral still lifes; he is considered the last important representative of the rich tradition of Dutch fruit and flower painting. Van Huysum died in Amsterdam in 1749.
