Biography

Born in Paris in 1642. After initial studies with his father, Michel Corneille (1603-1664), he became a pupil of Charles Le Brun. Awarded the Prix de Rome in 1659, and spent several years in Rome. Intensive study of Italian art, especially that of Annibale Carracci. After his return to Paris in 1663 he worked with Charles Le Brun, later with Pierre Mignard, on the decoration of Versailles as well as other projects. Died in Paris in 1708.
