About the Work

Representational motifs in a surreal pictorial space: it takes a moment to visually absorb the individual elements, such as the bar with the green stools on the right and the building complexes presented on the left as small models under glass domes. Three men are busy with a wooden-slat construction, from which they will apparently create an oversized star. The ostensibly representational pictorial elements are somewhat distracting. Furthermore, the strongly aligning perspective constructions of the space contradict our sensory experience. Neo Rauch deals in internal pictures, including allegories with links to contemporary society, which - like the one here - are difficult to decipher.
