About the Work

Ludwig Metz used this landscape sketchbook only for two coastal landscapes. Both were drawn quickly with a pencil and were probably made during a journey to the Baltic Sea in Northern Germany in 1864. The succeeding pages remain blank. Only the remains of two dried plant leaves have survived, pressed between the last pages of the book.
