About the Acquisition

It was the daughter of Major Michael von Lukacsich who enriched the Städel with this gift of a painting inherited from her father. Lukacsich was born in Frankfurt, and as a member of the Casino-Gesellschaft founded in 1802, was very well connected there. The donor herself had been married to Lieutenant Franz Adolph, Baron Villani Castello di Bellonico, since 1839.
