Dierk Schmidt (*1965) stellt in diesem Film der Städel-Reihe "Kunst nach 1945" Arbeiten aus seinem 19-teiligen Werkzyklus "SIEV-X – Zu einem Fall verschärfter Flüchtlingspolitik" (2001/02) vor. Die Werke des 1965 in Unna geborenen und in Berlin lebenden Künstlers verbinden einen Fall von unterlassener Hilfeleistung bei einem Schiffsunglück vor der Küste Australiens im Jahr 2001 mit einem der Hauptwerke der europäischen Historienmalerei: Théodore Géricaults „Das Floß der Medusa“ von 1819.
