About the Work

What is the relationship between identical pictures when they are joined together through serial repetition? Peter Roehr uses materials or scenes from everyday life in his work - film and sound sequences, beer mats, sticky labels or, as here, shots from the production at Volkswagen. Nothing is manipulated, added or removed. Nowhere does the author step into the limelight. And yet, Roehr changes the starting material by mounting the subject repeatedly in serial fashion. Given the flood of pictures in this modern age, Roehr confronts the viewer with a rigorous arrangement in which all content becomes an abstract pattern.
