About the Acquisition

For decades, Karl Gustaf and Annette Ratjen have been involved with the Städel Museum. From 1970 to 1992 Karl Gustaf Ratjen supported the Städel as a member of the administration. Both are and have been members of the Städelscher Museums-Verein and are generous donors to the museum. In 2010, Karl Gustaf Ratjen passed away and June 18, 2019 marks his 100th birthday. For this reason, Annette Ratjen gifts the collection of contemporary art with two outstanding works of post-war art by Josef Albers Study for Homage to the Square: From Afar from 1968 as well as Hans Hartung’s Untitled from 1955.
