About the Work

Ever since 1986, Manders has been working on his ‘self-portrait as a building’, an investigation of his artistic alter-ego. By linking everyday objects with his own artefacts, he constructs unfathomably surreal installations and spaces with widely varying dimensions – self-portraits in the sense of an appropriation of the world as part of an individual mythology. Thus Fragment from self-portrait as a building is a part of his inexhaustible artistic self-image.
