Born in Kohlscheid, near Aachen, in 1956. Studied visual arts and film at the Fachhochschule für Kunst und Design in Cologne from 1976 to 1978. Studied graphics and new media / video at Cooper Union, New York, in 1978-1979. Co-founder of the communal atelier Mülheimer Freiheit in 1980. Lives and works in Cologne.
