Born in Frauenberg in 1951. Studied sociology, political science, and pedagogy at the University of Cologne from 1970 to 1976. Co-founder of the communal atelier Mülheimer Freiheit in Cologne in 1980. In that same year co-founder of the music magazine 'SPEX'. 1986-1987 visiting professor at the Hochschule für bildende Künste, Hamburg. 2001-2002 visiting professor at the Hochschule für Bildende Künste, Braunschweig. Since 2004 professor of painting and graphics at the Hochschule für Bildende Künste, Dresden. Lives and works in Berlin, Cologne, and Dresden.
