Born in Kloster Oesede in 1947. 1970 to 1974 study at the Staatliche Kunstakademie Düsseldorf under Joseph Beuys and others. 1974 to 1979 travels to India, Indonesia, and Afghanistan. 1980 co-founder of the communal atelier Mülheimer Freiheit in Cologne. 1998 to 2013 professor at the Hochschule für Bildende Künste Dresden. Lives and works in Berlin.
